Supplies:

  • White Acrylic Paint
  • Black Paint Marker
  • Ruler
  • Terracotta Pot
  • 2 Rubber Bands

Start with a clean, dry terracotta pot. Stretch two rubber bands around the outside of the pot. One closer to the top and one closer to the bottom.

Paint above the top rubber band and below the bottom one to leave you with an unpainted area in the middle of the pot.

Take off the rubber bands once the paint is dry. Don’t worry if you get a little paint in the middle.

If you do get a little paint in the unpainted area just use some fine grit sandpaper and buff it away.

Now We Zentangle

For this part you’ll need a paint marker (I used black) and a ruler/straight edge if you’d like to use one.

So I start the pattern by creating my vertical lines. These are like the foundation for the design. I wanted 8 sets of vertical lines to split up the pot as evenly as I can.

First, it’s two sets across from each other, then splitting that space in half (which makes 4). Then, split that space in half (makes the 8) to create somewhat evenly spaced lines.

From there, we start putting in the diagonal lines. The diagonals should alternate directions to create a “chevron” look.

Once the diagonal lines are finished, I go back in with my paint marker to outline where the white paint and terracotta meet to create a cleaner look.

Once the paint is completely dry I can seal the design.
