What are Boo Bags and How to Make Them

Sharing is caring!

Trick-or-Treat, a Halloween tradition…but what if the trick is a treat? Boo bags are a great prank. You get to be sneaky, the target gets treats, definitely a win-win scenario, but it’s actually a win-win-win! Not only does that person get treats, but then they get to be sneaky too, and it keeps going and going all the way up till Halloween!

Here are the essentials of the Boo bag: treats (of course), the poem/instructions, and a ghost (because ghosts say “boo”, clever, I know). Pretty simple, right? So there is lots of room for creativity!

If you search around online you will find a bunch of versions of the rhyme, instructions and door sign. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to boo how you do.

  • Poem: This is usually a cute little explanation in rhyme, I went with a shorter/less spooky one.
  • Instructions: These are very important to keep the chain going! Some people will include a time limit, but sometimes you need more than 24-48 hours to put something together for more people. So I do not include one. This is supposed to be a fun thing, not a stressful one.
  • Sign: This is usually a ghost or “phantom” they will sometimes include “We’ve been Booed”, but it is not absolutely necessary. The people who have been booed will put this on their door to signify they have already received treats to ensure a better spread throughout a neighbor.

You can download these printables HERE and I am including a QR code you can pop in the bag so whomever you boo can easily print these out too! So for the card and the ghost, I printed them on cardstock and cut them out with scissors. I got a little fancy with the card and put it on orange paper and attached it to the outside of the paper bag I used for the goodies.

    Halloween Candy Bar Wrapper

I designed a few different printable candy bar wrapper designs that you can print at home. They are intentionally left blank so you can color and decorate to your heart’s content!

Prismacolor colored pencils for a cute, colorful take on pumpkins!

Prismacolor colored pencils for a classic pumpkin look.

Copic markers and a pen for some cute Jack-O-Lanterns!

The printable candy bar wrappers have trim marks at the corners. These are the perfect dimensions for full-size Hershey’s chocolate bars. Just use a paper cutter, hobby knife or scissors and cut it out.

Then you’ll want to place your wrapper, printed side down, and place the candy bar on top of it. After folding the blank flaps to the back, you can secure it with tape, glue or stickers.

    So spooky!

Here’s what I came up with for my treats, as you’ll notice the 2nd one is food allergy-free. If you know the family you are Booing, I would definitely keep that in consideration. If you don’t know, a little mixture should work great. Hit up the dollar store or the party section of a store for little inexpensive trinkets and toys to include.
